Leadership & Management
CWDC is working with partners to develop advice and materials to support high quality leadership and management across social care and children's services. Some of the supporting resources are specific to social care and others have wider application.
For social care CWDC has worked closely with Skills for Care to develop further materials as part of the joint social care leadership and management strategy. This includes a new unit of competence in ‘Providing Effective Supervision' (published Aug 2007).
Although CWDC was involved in some of the early work with Skills for Care to develop generic social care manager induction standards CWDC has now decided not to continue with this piece of work. CWDC is currently involved in a number of integrated leadership and management developments across a wide range of children's services and it would be difficult and unhelpful in the longer term to introduce a set of standards only in one service area. There are no immediate plans to develop common induction standards for children's services managers although this may be done at some point. CWDC views induction as important for all new starters and strongly supports effective induction of new managers. Employers should have arrangements in place to provide this and CWDC encourages local services to explore the opportunities for collaboration, common and consistent arrangements

CWDC is also working on wider management initiatives; details and advice are contained within the local workforce strategy advice toolkit. This includes information on the Championing Children and other developments.
